小さな種から大発見！植物の不思議なライフサイクルを探究しよう（年少・年中クラス）
Big Discoveries from Tiny Seeds! Exploring the Fascinating Life Cycle of Plants (K1–K2 Classes)

みなさん、こんにちは！
４月から、Beyondia International School MitaのK1・２（年少・年中クラス）では、IBのテーマ「私たちはどのようにして自分を表現するか（How we express ourselves）」に基づき、「植物のライフサイクル」について探究学習を行いました。
ただ種を植えるだけでなく、子供たちが自ら「不思議」を発見し、命のつながりを感じる体験の様子をお届けします。

Hello everyone!

Since April, the K1 and K2 classes at Beyondia International School Mita have been exploring the plant life cycle as part of the IB theme “How we express ourselves”. Rather than simply planting seeds, our goal has been to create opportunities for children to discover “mysteries” on their own and to feel the connection of life through hands-on experiences.

1. 探究の始まり：種ってなに？/ Beginning of Inquiry: What is a seed?
まずは、植物のライフサイクルについて教室で学び、続いて実際のいろいろな種（インゲン、コリアンダー）を触ってみました。

• 「硬いね！」「茶色いよ」「小さい！本当にこれが大きくなるの？」
  子供たちの鋭い観察力と疑問が、探究のスタートです。

We started by touching and observing different kinds of seeds (such as beans and coriander seeds).

• “It’s hard!”
• “It’s brown!”
• “It’s so small! Will this really grow big?”
• Their sharp observations and natural curiosity became the starting point of our inquiry.

2. 実践：命を育てる「種まき」/ Hands-on Learning: Planting Seeds and Caring for Life
実際の土の感触を楽しみながら種を植えました。

• 活動: 自分でポットに土を入れ、そっと種を置いて、優しくお布団をかけます。
• 学び: 「植物も眠るんだよ」「ご飯（水）をあげよう」と、植物を生き物として意識する姿が見られました。

The children planted seeds while enjoying the texture of real soil.

• Activity: Each child filled a pot with soil, gently placed a seed inside, and covered it softly like putting on a blanket.
• Learning: Comments like “Plants sleep too” and “Let’s give them food (water)” showed that the children were beginning to recognize plants as living things.

3. 観察：変化を発見する「毎日の水やり」/ Observation: Discovering Change Through Daily Watering
毎日のモーニぐサークルの時間では水やりを習慣化し、継続的な観察の機会を設けています。

• 活動: 毎日水やりをし、芽が出た瞬間や、葉っぱが増えた様子を自分なりの言葉で表現します。
• IBの視点: 「探究者（Inquirers）」として、なぜ芽が出たのか、どうして伸びたのか疑問をもち、クラスレッスンで振り返る、実践と知識を往還した学習プロセスを大切にしています。

During our morning circle time, watering the plants has become a daily routine, giving children continuous opportunities to observe growth.

• Activity: They water the plants every day and describe in their own words the moment the sprouts appear or when new leaves grow.
• IB Perspective: As Inquirers, the children wonder why the sprouts emerged or why the stems grew taller. We value this cycle of hands-on experience and reflection during class discussions.

Beyondia Mitaでは、種から芽、花、そしてまた種ができる「サイクル（循環）」を、歌や絵本を通して、英語で学んでいます。

At Beyondia Mita, children learn about the “cycle” of life—from seed, to sprout, to flower, and back to seed again—through songs, picture books, and English activities.

School tours are available anytime.

We will also be holding an Open School on Saturday, May 30th.
